AR Rahman to turn director!

The Mozart of Madras will direct a film based on a script that he has written himself

As Oscar fever surrounds us once again, here is news about the most illustrious Oscar winner from India. Music maestro AR Rahman it seems is all set to turn director.
The musician, who only recently did a scriptwriting and film direction course from LA, will be putting those skills to good use. And the news broke out when Resul Pookutty, who has worked alongside Rahman and won the Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire, revealed in a recent interview that it was only natural for Rahman – who is a great film buff – to be getting into direction. “We have been discussing, writing and having long chats over scripts. It is a necessary progression for AR to get into film direction,” said the Oscar winning technician.
There are rumours that Rahman will be working on a much bigger canvas in terms of size, and his pet project will be on the lines of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. He will start the movie only next year after all his musical commitments are fulfilled.
Rahman and Resul are looking at actors whom they can cast in the composer’s maiden venture and no one has been finalised yet since the film is in the early stages of discussion. We wish the Oscar winning musician all the very best and hope he gives us something which makes us proud once again!
